3D Scanning in the ''Serapeion''

The "Serapeion Project", sponsored by the Ephesus Foundation, started this year. Today, most of the building elements of the Serapeion (a temple dedicated to the Egyptian God Serapis) are still lying in place in front of it, as they collapsed during an earthquake. In June the monumental temple was scanned with a 3D laser scanner, provided by RIEGL Laser Measurement Systems. Thereby, the visible remains of the monument were documented by a team of the Vienna University of Technology. The collected data are used to create a three-dimensional model.
